Is technology going to overtake media planning?
I am not sure. But I think in 2008, we are going see some developments in that direction. Like you know, technologies like Google Adwords, where the advertiser can decide how much he wants to spend on his banner/text advertisements and how much exposure he would need in a particular area, made the online media planning and buying less significant. Now, when google is planning to extend their AdWords service to other traditional media, I do doubt that this is going to happen sometime soon.
So, what would be the agencies doing if the client is going to do all his media planning by himself?
I think it should be the content. All we have to do is to create attractive content which will be more user engaging and at the same time spread the word out. The viral marketing strategies and new ways of user engagement will come into play this time.
Yeah, we are going to see some exciting stuff this year, folks. I will be writing more about this soon. It’s quite late in the night and I really need to sleep now.
See ya…
